What to do in Rome, the eternal city

Founded according to legend by the brothers Romulus and Remus and become capital of the vastest empire in history, then proclaimed capital of Italy in 1870, Rome is considered the Eternal City, the cradle of italian history, art and culture.

Each period of its long past has left its evidence: Etruscan tombs, remains of the republican era, imperial temples, early Christian churches, medieval bell towers, Renaissance palaces and baroque basilicas. In this city an extraordinary concentration of history, legend and monuments coexists. It is difficult to decide what hits more, if the opulence of the Vatican, the immortality of the Forum, or the bill of a cappuccino at the bar. Every corner reveals fascinating glimpses and the visitor's gaze is like kidnapped by the incredible beauty of ancient monuments, squares and impressive churches.

Some things not to miss: in the Vatican City, home of the Papal State, climb the dome of St. Peter's basilica, from where you can admire a splendid panorama of Rome, and once you get off savour the splendours of the Vatican Museums and the Sistine Chapel; empathize with the glory of ancient Rome walking through the Roman Forum, the Palatine Hill, the Arch of Constantine, the Ara Pacis, the Circus Maximus, the Baths of Caracalla, the Pantheon and the Colosseum; spend an afternoon in the park of Villa Borghese and admire Piazza del Popolo from the Pincio Terrace; dine in the alleys of Trastevere; observe the majesty of the Altare della Patria; admire the Renaissance art of the Fountain of the Four Rivers in Piazza Navona, the Fountain of Neptune in Piazza del Popolo, the Triton Fountain in Piazza Barberini and finally throw a coin into the Trevi Fountain.

But Rome is also the city symbol of Italian Cinema, politics and the ideal city for those who love shopping and nightlife. The years of the Roman Dolce Vita seem to relive through the elegant streets around the palaces of politic power, Piazza di Spagna and Via Condotti.
